Full Day Plan:

Visit one of the most respected and holiest sites of Luang Prabang that have been a place of worship for more than a thousand years. Pak Ou translates to “the mouth of the Ou River.” The caves are located north of Luang Prabang on the east bank of the Mekong. Take in the magnificent scenery of the Mekong River and the limestone mountains. Travel back to Luang Prabang by boat and pass by typical Lao villages. We’ll stop and visit two of these villages.


  • In the morning meet your guide in the hotel lobby or at Whisper Journeys office and depart by private or join group vehicle to the boat pier by boat to the Pak Ou caves.
  • Enjoy the magnificent scenery along the Mekong River and explore the mysterious Pak Ou caves which have over 3000 Buddha images.
  • Travel back to Luang Prabang by boat
  • Visit Ban Xang Hai (Whisky village) and observe their traditional weaving technique and how they make Lao Whisky (Lao Lao). All sorts of snakes, insects and bugs are fermented and mixed with the whiskey.
  • Visit Xang Khong Village which makes saa paper
  • Pick up at the boat pier and transfer back to the hotel by private or join group vehicle

Pak Ou caves can get crowded on the weekends and national holidays.
